Our Heritage
Sourcing, grading and trading the sapphires of Sri Lanka, with nothing hidden about where a stone comes from or what has been done to it.

About us
We source, grade and trade natural Ceylon sapphires, and we tell you exactly what each one is.
Premadasa Gem & Jewellers works where the stones are, in Sri Lanka, the island long known as Ceylon. Sapphires are selected by eye from the island's gem gravels and its cutters, judged on colour, clarity and character before any question of price.
Everything the house does is built on one discipline: describe a stone exactly as it is. Origin is recorded. Treatment is stated plainly, whether heated or unheated. Where an independent laboratory report exists, it travels with the stone.

How a stone moves
Four stages, the same for every stone we handle, and documented at each step.

Stones are chosen by eye in Sri Lanka, judged on colour, clarity and character before anything else is decided. What we decline matters as much as what we take.

Rough is cut and finished by lapidaries on the island, then graded on colour, clarity and proportion. The cut is judged on what it does for the colour, not on weight retained.

Origin and treatment are recorded, and an independent laboratory report is available for every significant stone. Nothing is described as unheated unless a report supports it.

The stone is offered on inquiry, in person or by video, with its record in full. There is no online checkout, and no published price to anchor your judgement.

What we stand for
How we source, what we disclose, and how we deal with the people behind each stone.
We buy at the source, from the small-scale miners who work these pits by hand, with no anonymous middlemen in the chain.
The Ceylon trade is artisanal by nature, worked by hand. We deal fairly with the miners and cutters we buy from.
Origin, treatment, and the character of every stone, disclosed in full and documented.
“We trade only in stones we can account for, and we describe each one by its origin, its treatment, and exactly what it is.”

Questions
Where our sapphires come from, how we deal, and why unheated matters to us.
Sri Lanka. We select at the source, record each stone's origin, and name its specific locality where that is known and supportable.
